Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development
Sinopse
A remastered version of Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (the original Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2) was included in Super Mario All-Stars, released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. This marked the first international release of the Japanese sequel outside of Japan.
The original Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 had been released only in Japan on June 3, 1986, on the Famicom Disk System. Nintendo of America rejected it for Western release in 1987, deeming it too difficult for international audiences. Instead, Nintendo converted Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic into what became known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in North America, released in 1988.
When Super Mario All-Stars launched in 1993, it featured slightly reworked versions of both games—the Western Super Mario Bros. 2 and the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, which was given the international title Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels as a reference to its development history. The Japanese version was later also released standalone internationally through for Game Boy Advance in 2001.
